Meet Our Supported Missionaries

St Andrew is proud to be sponsoring the following missionaries who are answering God's call around the world:

Wes Magruder

Cameroon, Africa

Dear Friends and Family,

This newsletter is late in coming, but Season's Greetings anyway! Thank you for all of your support and prayers over the last year. We are excited and looking forward to a prosperous New Year. May the Prince of Peace be with you all!

Grace and peace,
The Magruders
United Methodist Missionaries to Cameroon

Magruder Family Rev. Wes Magruder, D.Min. is a recently commissioned missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries who is assigned, along with his family, to serve in Yaounde, Cameroon, West Africa as the Director of the United Methodist Mission in Cameroon.

"My job will be to oversee the growth of the United Methodist Church in Cameroon through administrative leadership, training of pastors, spiritual guidance, and baptizing new disciples of Jesus Christ," Rev. Magruder explains. "As a pastor, the most exciting part of ministry is when someone begins to respond to the call of God in his or her life. I love being at a person's side when she decides to begin the ordination process, or when he signs up to go on a mission trip, or when she teaches a children's Sunday School class for the first time. The joy and excitement of being in service is contagious! I look forward to helping many people respond to their call in Cameroon."

Wes was born in Dallas, Texas, and earned a Bachelor of Arts and Radio/TV/Film from Cal State Long Beach in Long Beach, California. In 1996 he earned his Masters of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University (go Ponies!) in Dallas, Texas, and continued his graduate studies at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas and earned his Doctorate of Ministry in Homiletics in 2004.

Dr. Magruder served in the Chislehurst Circuit of the British Methodist Church from 1996-1998. He has been senior pastor at Valley View UMC and Trailwood UMC, both in the North Texas Annual Conference. Wes' local church membership is with First United Methodist Church in Allen, Texas of the North Texas Annual Conference.

Wes and wife Leah, also a commissioned missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries, are the parents of three children: Rachel Christine, born in 1994, Chloe Nicole, born in 1996, and Mallory Catherine, born in 1999. Wes' parents, Walter and Marie Magruder live in Allen, Texas and attend Grace Outreach Center in Plano, Texas.

Jeri and Bill Savuto

Kenya, Africa

Jerri and Bill Savuto Jerri Savuto is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, along with her husband Bill, and served in Maua Methodist Hospital, Maua, Kenya from 1998-2003 where she was a tutor in the hospital RN program. Her responsibilities included teaching nursing students in the areas of anatomy, physiology, nutrition, pharmacology, medical and surgical nursing, pediatrics, and community heatlh.

In May of 2003, Jerri and Bill returned to the US to begin work as the Interim Regional Executives for Sub-Sahara Africa with the General Board of Global Ministries in New York City. February 1, 2004 they moved to the Dallas, TX area to begin their new jobs as Missionary Interpreters in Residence for the South Central Jurisdiction of the UMC. They rejoice with this new position. After serving in the US and overseas as well as their work with GBGM in New York, they know how important it is for United Methodist congregations to support missionaries and Advance Projects, the areas Jerri and Bill will be working with in annual conferences, districts, and local churches. Of her assignment as a nursing instructor in Kenya, Jerri says, "RN's are desperately needed throughout Kenya. I was able to train students to care for the health needs of the Kenyan people throughout the country while witnessing to the love of Jesus Christ."

Jerri, along with Bill, previously served as GBGM missionaries from 1982-1989. From 1982-1985 they served in Belize City, Belize in Central America where she established and directed the natinal breast feeding organization "Breast is Best League", and under Jerri's direction, breast feding increased from 18% to 52%. From 1986-1989 they served in Jos, Nigeria where she served as an assistant to Bill as well as doing school and rural health nursing.

A native of Santa Fe, NM, Jerri earned a BS degree in nursing from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX in 1968. From 1973-74, Jerri was campus nurse at the Navajo Methodist Mission School in Farmington, NM where she also taught health courses. She was commissioned as a GBGM missionary in 1982.

Jerri and Bill have one adult daughter, Corrie Lyn, and a new granddaughter, Lily. The Savutos are members of Plymouth Park UMC in Irving, Texas.

Kim Hargrove's October Newsletter

February 2007

Hello Friends and Family! Here is my update for February. The newsletter is attached...but there is some stuff I forgot to write about! I'll sum it up here:

This month has been Fantastic February (cheesy, I know). I am learning so much about trusting the Lord. I've had some tough situations come up but the Lord hasn't left my side. Our time together has been sweet and I fall in love with Him more and more everyday. I am falling in love with this country more and more everyday too. Praise the Lord for that. I also get to spend a lot of quality time with the director's family. I am the akward, grown, white daughter of the family now. Praise the Lord for Mireille (the director's wife who came to visit me in December). She has been a rock for me here and I love spending time with her. My Creole is coming along now much better but I still have a ways to go. I practice a lot with Mireille and the kids.

Just to give an update for those of you supporting me financially: I was able to purchase sandals for each of the children, some office supplies to organize paperwork, and a new large wipe-off board with the extra money each month. I try to keep things under budget as much as possible which frees up funds for other stuff around the orphanage!

I am also working on raising funds again to be able to come back in April. If anyone feels led to continue supporting me for another 3 months, that would be WONDERFUL! Also, if anyone is interested in coming for a short-term trip, I would love to organize a trip with you. The kids enjoy having visitors, and we can sure use some manpower for some things.

Finally, if any of you have ever considered adoption, we have so many wonderful children who are waiting for forever families. Please pray about it and consider taking one of these precious children home one day. Just let me know!

Have a wonderful week, and may the Lord bless you by showing you His love in a new way.

Colossians 1:3-6
