Help for Victims of the Haiti Earthquake
A massive, 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti near the capital of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12. The damage to buildings is extensive and the number of injured or dead is estimated to be in the hundreds, even thousands. Your gift now will help distribute life-saving relief supplies — including food, clean water, blankets, and tents — to children and families devastated by the earthquake and aftershocks in Haiti. If you would like to contribute, send your check to St. Andrew (made payable to St. Andrew) with “Haiti” in the memo section. Thank you for your contribution to those in need.
UMCOR: Haiti Update
We are all horrified at the devastation in Haiti due to the earthquake. How can we as individuals and a congregation reach out to those in need?
Financial Donations
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is one of the most effective ways to help. UMCOR will take 100% of the money donated and use it for relief and recovery efforts. None of the donated dollars will be used for administrative or overhead costs. Financial support is critical for immediate and ongoing relief efforts. UMCOR is universally recognized as a leader in disaster relief. You may donate online any time or send checks to the church office marked “Haiti”.

Update from Kim Hargrove on her Haiti Community
The earthquake that hit Haiti on Tuesday has left thousands of people without homes, food, water, and medical care. Many of you have asked about my friends there. So far I have heard that most are alive, but their homes are either destroyed or unsafe. I have heard from some who have lost loved ones. There are a few that I have yet to hear from so please keep praying. The children at HCRM and HFC (the two orphanages I worked at) are ok, but their buildings are damaged. For those of you who don’t know, I taught at a Christian School in Port-au-Prince for 2 years. The school was miraculously spared (it is just down the street from a major grocery store that collapsed). It is now being used as a relief center. The school chapel is a surgery center, the basketball field is a trauma center, and the soccer field and playgrounds are being used as a refugee center for school staff and orphans from a nearby home that collapsed. We are working to get supplies to this wonderful community. Please keep them in your prayers.
