Please contact Donna Fenwick, 972-380-8001 or dfenwick@standrewumc.org for more information.

Hospital Visitation

The Pastoral clergy regularly visit the area hospitals to attend to the needs of patients and their families.  Prayer is an important part of the healing process.  It is part of the clergy’s ministry to pray with patients and families before surgery if desired by the patient.

If you are preparing for a stay in the hospital and would like to be added to the hospital visitation list, email Rev. Doug Meyer with hospital name, entering date/time of surgery, and nature of hospitalization.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry at St. Andrew equips trained laypersons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and community.

Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry: those receiving care can be sure that their identity and what goes on in the caring relationship will remain private.

When might I want a Stephen Minister?

If you are in the hospital;
Facing transitions such as marriage, birth, adoption, separation,  divorce, or “empty nest;"

Needing the support of someone who can listen without judgment;
In the midst of grieving a death or serious loss;
Recently laid-off or transitioning in your career;
Caring for someone who is sick or terminally ill;
Facing spiritual questions;
The aging and elderly.

How do I connect with a Stephen Minister?

The Stephen Ministry Referral Coordinator, Lisa Test (214-291-8058) will contact you after a request is made.  She will explain the process and answer any additional questions.

Baptism

As you begin to consider baptizing your child, the following information can serve as a guide as you explore this sacred event in the life of the congregation.  Baptism is one of the great joys we share as a congregation.  We look forward to sharing this “God moment” with you and your family.

Many people ask why The United Methodist Church baptizes infants, and why other churches baptize adults only.  The practice of infant baptism comes from an understanding of baptism as that which God does for us.  Baptism is an outward and visible sign of the inward and invisible grace that God freely gives us.  This grace symbolizes how God has cleansed us from our sins and welcomes us into the body of Christ.  God gives this grace to us not because we did anything to deserve it, but because God loves us.

Baptism is not an isolated event in your child’s life.  It is the beginning of a lifelong journey with God.  As your child grows in knowledge and love of the Lord, God continues to work in his/her life through grace.  That grace will lead him/her to profess faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  In the life of the church, this happens during Confirmation.

Baptism is a sacred time in which the entire congregation participates.  Baptism happens in the context of a worship service because baptism is also an initiation into the body of Christ, also called the Church universal.

As you begin to look at the calendar to schedule a baptism date, remember that baptisms are done on any Saturday/Sunday of the month except the first Saturday/Sunday.  We do not want to have to rush through a baptism, and with the first Sunday of the month being communion, there is not as much time available for the baptismal moment.

You may choose to have your child baptized in any of the worship services on Sunday morning or Saturday night.

When you are ready to schedule a date, contact Janie Owens in the church office.  You can schedule as far in advance as you would like, but we ask that families schedule a baptism by the Tuesday before the selected Sunday.  If you are not members of the church already, you can join on the Sunday of the baptism.

Contact Rev. Doug Meyer for questions concerning meaning and practice of baptism.
