New Health Protocols for 2021-22

St. Andrew Preschool follows comprehensive guidelines for sanitizing equipment, daily in-class cleaning measures, limited student-teacher ratios, and a published health and safety plan.

Read below for more details. For questions, please contact St. Andrew Preschool Director Pride Mersbach.

We have purchased an electrostatic disinfecting sprayer. This reduces the time it takes to cover and disinfect all surfaces and hard to reach places by 50% compared to conventional methods, and it improves infection control. It generates charged droplets that repel one another and actively seek surfaces. We are using Eco Lab 100% peroxide sterilization.

Outside, we are using a FloMaster Pumpless sprayer to clean playground surfaces.

Throughout St. Andrew Preschool, we are using Decon 30, an EPA-registered botanical disinfectant that kills over 99.99% of bacteria and fungi. It requires no rinsing or wiping after application.

We have staff members who we have trained for the sole task of cleaning classrooms before the arrival of any students, throughout the day, and after dismissal.

An enhanced, thorough cleaning will be performed each evening by the church custodial staff in all areas of the school. St. Andrew Preschool will continue to follow NAEYC’s guidance on daily cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting procedures.

Children and staff will wash hands frequently and regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds throughout the day.

Staff will have access to disposable gloves, disinfectant solution, anti-bacterial wipes and hand sanitizer.

Classrooms will remain separated to reduce the number of children in one area. As much as possible, groups will NOT be combined, and children will limit travel from room to room throughout the day.

Staff will spread the children out appropriately during classroom activities, snack, lunch and naptime.

Enrichment classes will have time between classes to allow time to disinfect resources and classrooms.

The maximum student-to-teacher class sizes are as follows:

1’s | maximum 8 students, with 2 teachers

2’s | maximum 6 students

3’s & 4’s | maximum 10 students

Pre K 5’s | maximum 12 students, with 2 teachers

Our Mission and Goals

The mission of St. Andrew Preschool is to provide a developmentally appropriate program that addresses the cognitive, physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of each child in a safe and nurturing environment. We believe that students deserve an early learning experience that is individualized and presented in a healthy environment that welcomes exploration, imagination and spiritual growth. Activities are planned and directed by caring adults who are chosen for their teaching skills and their commitment to Christian education.

Faith-Based Goals: Our goal is to provide faith-based learning opportunities through daily prayer, song and Christ-like examples. Modeled experiences will reinforce that Christ is the core of all connections.

Academic Goals: Each student is encouraged to meet age appropriate goals covering a variety of developmental milestones from the following categories:

• Language & Literacy
• Personal Health & Safety
• Physical Development
• Math & Science
• Music & the Arts
• Social/Emotional/Personal Development

The conception of the preschool began with a vision of the St. Andrew church staff and members. The vision established for the preschool was for the program to be a ministry, not only to church members but also for the community; to work with the church and establish the church name within the community; and to provide a first time church experience for some children. We opened our doors in September of 1991 with an enrollment of 73 children in seven classes and a staff of seven.

Our Board

The St. Andrew Preschool Advisory Board has the responsibility to help define the overall vision and guidelines of a quality, caring Christian program. One of the ways the Board does this is by obtaining information and input from other Board members and the community at-large about various issues that arise in the school year and using that information to make decisions on what shall be provided to the St. Andrew United Methodist Church Leadership as the Board’s recommendation of how to handle those issues.

All enrolled families are invited by the Board to give ideas and suggestions about the program’s policies, procedures, and planning to meet the needs of all children enrolled. Families may do this by placing a written comment in the “Suggestion Box” located in the main Children’s Entrance. The Board Chair will reply to all comments after Board review. If a parent chooses not to sign the written comment, the Board will post their response in the school newsletter.

Our Staff

Our staff is chosen because they love working with young children and have a passion for weekday ministry. Many staff members have degrees in Child Development, Early Childhood, and Elementary Education. Additionally, all teachers receive at least 24 hours of training each year through workshops, seminars, and/or college classes designed for early childhood educators. Pediatric First Aid and CPR training are required of all staff.

St. Andrew Preschool provides equal opportunities to all and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability, marital status, ancestry status or national origin in its educational programs or activities, including employment and admissions.

At the same time, St. Andrew Preschool cherishes its right and duty to seek and retain personnel who will make a positive contribution to its religious character, goals, and mission in order to enhance the St. Andrew United Methodist Church and St. Andrew Preschool.

All individuals shall be recruited, hired, advanced, compensated, and retained on the basis of their qualifications and performance.

In order to be considered for employment, you must submit an application.

  • Impacting children’s learning through meaningful and relevant experiences

Our Stories

St. Andrew Preschool students learn to love Christ, love others, love learning, and take those lessons far beyond the walls of the school.

We are loved

When Mom asks, "Who kept the men in the fiery furnace safe?" Two-year-old Lila answers, "Jesus!"

Why? Children at St. Andrew Preschool learn early and often how much they are loved by Jesus.

We've curated the songs played in the halls of our Preschool, with tunes from this summer's VBS as well as other popular children's recordings. We hope this playlist helps extend worship throughout the week for your family!

Yearly Events

We have fun all year round at St. Andrew Preschool!

Just a few of our yearly events:

Rodeo Round Up • Multicultural Learning Days • Art Gala • Down on the Farm • Pajama Day

Various guest instructors including professional artists, cultural educators, and storytellers
